The first amendment: freedom of speech, freedom of religion, and freedom of press.

I can think of several instances where the first amendment has come into play. For example, my column in the Avant Gardian; in my column I express my opinion about issues I'm confused and interested in. There are situations in school and life where it appears confusing and unfair and I write about those times in my column; even though it's just a school paper that comes out once a month -- if we're lucky.

We integrate the freedoms of speech, religion and press in our daily lives. In class discussions we are entitled to our own opinions and beliefs, we can be very open and share what’s on our mind (as long as it’s school appropriate and on topic). For the sophomore speech we were given the chance to choose a subject that we felt strongly about, research it, and present it to our peers. The first amendment plays a big role in our lives.

i choose to go to church every sunday morning...w/o the first amendment, which protects the freedom of religion, there is a good chance i would not be able to choose what church i went to. i also write music and the first amendment protects my write to publish those lyrics which can say whatever im feeling. thanks founding fathers!

The first amendment exemplifies those revolutionary ideas of freedom that our founders wished to impart. Without this protection, American society would be very different. THe newspapers could no longer criticize the leaders and we couldn't even have debates like we did on friday. It would be terrible to be restricted from even bringing these controversial ideas up.

The first ammendment gives americans freedom of speech religion and press. This is extremely important and I constantly am thankfully given this freedom everyday.I learn from this right. At school during discussions everyone shares their own opinion and no ones feelings must be held unless they wish. This is very important to me and I learn alot from it. All people should have the right to be heard.

In short, the first amendment allows the American citizen to act as an individual; it enables us the power to express ourselves without the cause to conform or repress our ideas.

A prime example of this are the Anti-War protesters. They blatantly castigate the administration and some even invoke rebellion; nevertheless, they are protected under the first amendment to freedom of speech and belief. Few other countries would allow such open defiance of their policies.

the first amendment gives us the freedom of religion, speech, and press. I know that I have been protected by this amendment many times. I would not have the ability to choose my faith and how I pray, and I would not be able to speak my mind. I can freely express my thoughts about politics and not fear the government coming after me. Not that I can't ever keep an opinion to myself, but expression is a wonderful thing. If we didn't have the first amendment, I could have been jailed ten times over. bravo for freedom!

The First Amendment gives us important freedoms which are a large part of our current society. An example of myself being protected by these rights is what religion my family and I practice, no one can force their beliefs on us which I am thankful for. Another example would be that if I wanted to protest something I could without fear of being attacked by the government. Without the First Amendment I know that we would live in a very different world today.

People often misinterpret the 1st Amendment as separation of church and state. The quote itself is taken from a letter that Jefferson wrote to the Danbury Baptists. Jefferson was actually in France when the Amendment was written. It says congress shall make no law, but it does not deny the state the ability. Many argue that the Amendment's intent was also to the states but this is not true since the Amendments were originally intended only to be federal until the 14th. That having been said I use the 1st Ammendment to voice my opinion every day. I also am able to listen to others on the radio speak theirs, even though Dennis Kucinich tried to shut many down with his proposing of the fairness doctrine, which was intended to silence the conservative radio talk show hosts. The 1st Amendment is one right that Americans are very lucky to have and which many times we take for granted.

The First Amendment protects for us the freedom of speech, religion, and press. Many people in the United States take for granted that we are actually allowed to voice our own opinion. It allows for me to debate in class, write an article expressing my feelings about politics, and even just listen or watch political shows. In other countries, people might go to jail for expressing their beliefs or religious ideas. Without the First Amendment, life in America would be completely different and just like some of the other countries in the world.

The first amendment allows my family to go to the church we choose every sunday. It also allows us the right to express our opinions in situations such as the sophmore speech.

The first amendment gives us freedom of religion, speech, and press. These things are taken for granted every day while people in other countries have absolutely no freedoms. people use this amendment during many daily activities like deciding to demonstrate against politics, write reviews or opion columns and many more things. this amendment basically gives the individual person the right for an opinion.

The first amendment gives us the right to speak for and against issues that influence our lives. Thanks to this amendment we can give our opinions. As always, nothing's perfect and this past week, for example, in L.A. people were protesting and exerting their right to give their opinions and the police brutaly made them stop leaving small children and others extremely hurt. It was a shame that they did that, but life's like that and we can't change it...

The first amendment is put to action every day by every person. When I choose to speak to my friends, I am using my freedom of speech and by having and/or reading a newspaper, freedom of speech and press are being used. When I go to peaceful assemblies, such as youth rallies, I use my freedom to assemble peaceably. Lastly, every day that I choose not to belileve in a god or choose not to go to church, I am using my freedom of religion. I use the first amendment each and every day.

Amendment I
Congress shall make no law respecting an establishment of religion, or prohibiting the free exercise thereof; or abridging the freedom of speech, or of the press; or the right of the people peaceably to assemble, and to petition the government for a redress of grievances.

no situation comes to mind..so I atually imagined one. I made it up.

imaginary situation:

I am a student at Novato High school highly active in the GSA. I see hate crime after hate crime me done to my friends in the GSA, and want to make it known that students here are disrespectful and are causing school to be an unsafe environment. I go to the Novato Advanced and write an article for the OP/ED page to express my feelings. If it weren't for the first amendment, I would not has the freedom of press, or speech, to say what I wanted abou this subject and to make it known.

There are various circumstances in my life where the first ammendment has aided me:

For instance one of the things i am most proud of is my religion of Judaism. This religion ha gone through many hardships ans remains a minority in the world. With the first ammendment i am freely allowed to practice this religion however i wish.

Another example of using the first ammendment ould be my everyday life. I frequently use the right of speech every second of my life. With the first ammendment i am allowed to express my feelings in whatever manner i wish, provided it's not to eccentric.

This amendment has protected me many times, because my christian religion is a big part of me, and without it I might cry, maybe. Freedom of speech has allowed me to speak my mind to a certain extent, and that's good also. That's all.

The first amendment gives us the right of freedom of speech. I could not discuss anything in class without this and I could not take part in any debates against the government. One time when i went on a strike against war with my cousin, we could have not been able to do that with out the right of freedom of speech. When I go to the gym and there are problems with it such as a dirty water fountain, I would not be able to express how I feel about that or ask them to change any old appliances. With out the first amendment I would not be able to live comfortably and may go crazy. The first amendment plays a huge role in everyone's everyday life.

The first amendment states:

Congress shall make no law respecting an establishment of religion, or prohibiting the free exercise thereof; or abridging the freedom of speech, or of the press; or the right of the people peaceably to assemble, and to petition the government for a redress of grievances.

We are given many rights as Americans that we exercise in our everyday lives. Given the freedom of religion, speech, press, as well as peaceful assembly, Americans can be considered fortunate for many countries do not grant these rights to citizens.

I think it is important to notice peaceful assembly as an important aspect of the first ammendment for not many students wrote about how they use it in their lives. With this, we are able to assemble into groups to voice our opinions and inform others about our concerns. Ideas are spread by the help of the first ammendment and reform is taken into consideration.

Without the first amendment, this blog wouldn't exist and then I wouldn't have to do this assignment that I didn't know was assigned until today.

The first amendment protects my right to say what I want whenever I want to. It says that I can disagree with anyone on anything I want to and with all the people in our world who don't take the time to look fully at an issue I do this fairly often. Also, I love south park which could not exist without the first amandment
