Example of Annotated Research

The Assignment has three parts;
1) Citation
2) Abstract
3) Quotation
They are described below:

1) Use www.citationmachine.net to help write this:

Vincent, Isabel. "Where Are The War Criminals?." Maclean's, 4/2/07, 20-21.

2) Summerize the source and how it is useful to you:

The article focuses on the ruling of the International Court of Justice in late February absolving Serbia of direct responsibility for genocide committed during their war with Bosnia. Serbian President Boris Tadic hopes the ruling will give Serbian officials more political clout in their efforts to capture Serb war criminals such as Bosnian Serb general Ratko Mladic and former Bosnian Serb leader Radovan Karadzic.

3) A quote from the article that is the main point or thesis of the the article:

“The International Court of Justice ruling in late February, absolving Serbia of direct responsibility for genocide committed during the 1992-1995 war with Bosnia, may actually be the biggest boon to capturing two of the former Yugoslavia's most wanted war criminals.”

Find sources that are related to one of the five body paragraphs main topic areas.

Wiherbee, Amy. "Kenya." Our World: Kenya, 2006, P.1-6.

This article is a large overview of the conditions in Kenya about a year ago, but there is a section on Health Care. It states that at present Kenya’s health care system is unsubstantial to support the needs of the country, and only the wealthy can truly afford any sort of support. Even this support, however, pales in comparison to many other countries. As Amy Witherbee states:

“As of a 2002 study, only 1 percent of Kenya's wealthiest citizens had adequate private health insurance.”

The National Hospital Insurance Fund was established to try and alleviate the problem, but this covers only 2 million Kenyan citizens, barely more than 1/16 of Kenya’s 33 million people. Witherbee sums this up in:

“The government established the National Hospital Insurance Fund in 1996 to alleviate health care costs for poorer citizens. Under the corresponding plan, Kenyans can purchase partial health insurance coverage at a rate that is set according to the patient's income level. As of 2002, only about 2 million of Kenya's 33 million people were covered under the plan.”

Bureau of African Affairs, "Background Note: Kenya." U.S Department of State, September 2006, 1-7.

This is another overview article of Kenya. I will focus on the political section of the article. Since achieving independence, Kenya’s government has been more or less self-sufficient, despite outside strife. Once parliamentary, Kenya turned in 2002 to democracy and public election. Since then it has enjoyed freedom and improvement in overall economy. To sum it up, the Bureau of African Affairs States:

“Since independence, Kenya has maintained remarkable stability despite changes in its
political system and crises in neighboring countries.”

At citationmachine.net, it gives me options for a book, journal, or magazine in the Chicago format. What should I pick if I'm citing a newspaper article? Also, I couldn't find all the information about my source from ebsco (it only gave me the newspaper name, but not the edition number or volume number). Please advise me what to do!
